Goodies but oldies

So I've decided that every once in awhile I'll be posting personal work of mine that I did when I was just learning photography. These images are from a trip I took when driving across the US. This is by no means my best work but there are some keepers that I still love.

Smithsonian:
Space Shuttle Enterprise

Yellowstone:
Serenity at Yellowstone

Mt Rushmore:
Sunlight at Mount Rushmore
Looking Heavenward (This last one is one of my favorites because Thomas Jefferson is the only one gazing up at Mount Rushmore and I caught a moment when the sun light was directly on only him.)

Merry Christmas to all!!

As you all of you know it has been snowing like crazy in the Portland area. So what's a photographer to do being cooped up all day? Why not create a mini studio and have some fun in front of a flat white back ground? The next couple days will feature some of the craziness that went on during one of the snow days. Enjoy the tomfoolery and Merry Christmas!

Warburton Family

Back in August during a family reunion, my sister-in-law and I did a little family photo swap. She is a very talented photographer and I attribute my success with photography in large part to her hints and help when I was just getting started. Here are some photos I took for her cute family. I don't know if it's because it's snowing here in Oregon but I went with a very warm style when editing these photos. If any of you are looking for an incredible photographer in the Los Angeles area please check her out here.

Enjoy!

Allred Family

Here is another wonderful family. When we were planning the session we had talked about what alternatives we would have if it was going to be raining (something we have to always consider living in Portland). Lucky for us the day was gorgeous and we were able to have a great shoot. Enjoy!

Happy Christmas!

I wanted to wish all of you readers of my blog and clients a very happy Christmas! This is our family Christmas card this year and since some of you won't be getting one in the mail, I thought I'd post one on my blog. I've decided that from now on I want all of our holiday cards to contain all text in the photo its self which, I think, gives it a little more personal feel. Thanks again for such a rewarding and wonderful year!

Campbell Family

Remember the photo of the little girl making that sour face I posted last week? Well she is actually very cute (as you can see below) and was perfectly behaved the entire time. I just happen to catch her in a moment of weakness earlier in the shoot. :)

Little Joe McGee

Around the time of the great depression Little Joe's once wealthy father lost everything. In a desperate attempt to find work his family drove across the US staying in abandon barns along the way. This photo was taken in front of one of the barns. While they had lost everything material they never gave up hope...or their fantastically awesome designer clothing.

OK, so I just made that story up. But doesn't this photo have that same old timey feel? I just couldn't post it without some kind of narrative attached. :)

In truth, it was taken from a recent shoot of the Campbell family in Sherwood Oregon. For a photo session of 21 people it only took me a little over an hour so I have given them my award for the best behaved children in a supporting role.

The next several days will feature photos from the shoot. Enjoy!

A little thank you...

From the Charity Auction: Milla Family

Since this is my first year of owning my photography business I have decided to start a tradition of every Christmas season donating my services as a photographer to charity. This year I decided to donate a session to the Children's Relief Nursery (www.crn4kids.org) charity auction. The family that bid and won was the Milla Family whose photos will be today and tomorrow. They have some of the cutest girls I've ever had the pleasure of photographing and their grandfather was also in town so we braved the rain and took some pictures on the east waterfront by OMSI.

Snow day!

We braved the cold and wind for a few brief moments to enjoy our first snow of the season. It was my sons first experience with snow and while I think he liked it on the ground, in the air and in his face, not so much.

If I can brag for a second...

So she'll probably kill me for doing this but I just have to brag about my wife for a second. She was asked to create a poster and hand outs for an activity the women of our church are going to be having next month. In just a couple hours she was able to throw this together and have it ready for display this Sunday:

I know, right? Seriously amazing. Also, several of the best photos taken at the Roger + Natalie wedding were taken by her since she was a second shooter for me.

OK, thats all. I just had to brag a little.

Allred Family: Sneak Peek

One thing I attempt to capture with my photography is the connection of people with their loved ones. I absolutely love this photo because of it's serenity and the happiness between a father and son. (I know, I can totally be cheesy, huh? But it's true. :)
